Voyagers in Life

Imagine the airport, filled with strangers bumping into each other.

So many people and so many stories, yet so few interactions.

I picture the airport with countless figures walking around each other - going souvenir shopping, dining and drinking at the overpriced cafes, rushing to gates, embarking on planes, and disembarking from them.

Many activities are done by so many people in a building connecting one place to another, yet so few connections between the people.

Now imagine the airport as our lives.

Different main characters are living their lives around each other- going to the gym, commuting to work, dining at restaurants, shopping for clothes, and dropping kids to school.

Heaps of activities are done by various people with their own goals, dreams, and problems.

Just like the airport, each of us is a voyager - we are on this long journey called life, just trying to reach another milestone that we deem important to ourselves.

In the waiting room, we may get to know a handful of other voyagers and we may even see them again at some point in our voyage, but most voyagers will only grace us with their presence for that one specific moment, or a handful of times.

We will undoubtedly meet other voyagers with different destinations, experiences, and desires. Some, we may exchange a glance or two. With some others, we may have a meaningful one-off conversation. Others, we may travel within the next few trips. Yet only a handful of selected people—whom some might even call friends or a life partner—will remain close to us during our remaining voyages.

And that’s perfect the way it is.

Specific voyages introduce us to a unique set of voyagers we may not have come across otherwise.

Sometimes we are blessed to discover a fellow voyager who will stay with us for a long time. Other times, a quick glance or nod across the waiting room is all we get from our fellow travelers

Maybe that’s sad. Maybe that’s for the best. One thing's for sure - it is the way it is.
